There are many talented designers out there but one of them is very special when compared to others. It is a bit easier to be supported and cherished if you can create sold-out pieces but is that all that matters? I do not think so...
You most probably know that Simon Porte Jacquemus and his brand are loved by many of us, fashion enthusiasts. But why? Is it only because of the fact that he creates those sold-out items or is there any more reason? The answer is "Yes, there is more" and I am gonna list five reasons from my own perspective to show you that Jacquemus is so much more than the phenomenal Le Chiquito bags. But before my reasons, I would like to provide brief information about Simon and his precious brand.
Simon Porte Jacquemus is a 34 year-old French fashion designer, an ESMOD graduate who started his own label at the age of 19 and the name Jacquemus actually comes from his mother that he lost at that same age, Valérie, because it was her maiden name. Thus, he makes sure that her legacy lives on and he is very connected to his family, especially to his grandma. They are the perfect example of a lovely grandma-grandchild relationship, she always show up at his shows to support him and poses for pictures wearing the brand. Speaking of family, he is also a father of two lovely babies with his husband who is his ride or die <3
As I said he is French and was born in Salon-de-Provence and grew up in Mallemort in Southern France. It was a small town and his designs always feel like home to me because he is always driven by his past and makes sures to reflect his earlier life to his designs and successfuly executes his vision. Anyway, without further ado, lemme list my reasons...
1.Creative Campaigns and Invitations
It is obviously impossible for me to put all of the creative and genius campaigns/editorials and interactive invitations here in this post but Simon and his team are killing the marketing and PR game with each collection they put out there! CGI videos of their bags as buses/cars or a pasta-making kit as an invitation for the show? Or the Jacquemus logo as a sunburn or sewing kit as big as humans? Whatever you can imagine of was already or will definitely be a marketing material for them to use!
Some people do not fancy these kind of marketing strategies that Coperni and AVAVAV also implement all the time and call them cheesy gimmicks but I think fashion is a different form of art and creative directors and their whole team actually should express their visions in any way possible. Of course, the most important thing for collections are the garments however, the way a brand is marketing them also makes it way more captivating and interesting. I am gonna shut up now and let the slide show down below do the actual talking:
2.It Always Feels Like Summer
I already mentioned that he grew up in a small town in Southern France and I strongly believe that it is the main cause but anything that comes out Jacquemus feels like summer to me. I was born and raised in Antalya, which is at the south of Türkiye, so maybe that's why I feel so connected to Simon but his designs and campaigns make me feel like as if I am at my hometown. I feel so happy, peaceful and at ease when I see their editorials and clothes/accessories. But no worries, if you are not a fan of summer he obviously makes collections for the winter and fall seasons too.
3.The Fact That Simon Is Kind and Loyal
Okay, some of you might find this bullet ridiculous because he is not my friend, wish he was tho :') , so how can I know his personality completely, right? Of course I cannot but even the vibes he gives out from his social media, and seeing his relationships with models and celebrities like Jennie of Blackpink, Dua Lipa, Gigi Hadid and Kylie Jenner among hundreds of others gives me a strong hint. He always credits his team, the famous (or not) people that he works with and gives them their flowers thus, I believe that he is a very loyal/truehearted person.
In addition, I think he perfectly balances his ego, I mean it must not be so easy to stay kind after all of this fame/recognition and awards he gained but he is an exception. A long time ago, I think he used an interior designer's furniture as an inspiration for a photoshoot or a store, I cannot remember the full details so, I don't want this to turn into a false gossip but he apologised and credited the designer in his IG stories. If it was someone else, he or she would probably blocked the interior designer and blame him/her rather than apologising.
Long story short, even though I like to follow this crazy industry called fashion as close as I can, nowadays, we cannot come across beautiful souls like Simon that who literally puts his past, heart and vision fully and honestly into their brands. The industry contains lots of ungrateful and dishonest people that unfortunately supported by many and that gives me the ick, okay it was a bit harsh but however, that is the sad truth... But Simon gives me hope that this sector is not fully rotten yet. He always points out how grateful he is for his team, friends, family and guests and tries to spread positivity with his work. Thus, especially for this reason, I will never stop cherishing him.
4.Show Venues and (Pop-Up) Stores/Boutiques
I think we all remember the epic show that happened at a lavender field, right? If you do not, you can take a look at the slideshow down below to refresh your memory. I personally do not fancy boring runway shows with plain backgrounds but I cannot blame brands because I think that requires high budget but I also think that it would definitely worth it! It is important to create an atmosphere that matches the whole vibe and theme of the collection and besides the soundtrack, of course the venue itself makes it possible! And yes, Jacquemus is definitely the best in the game when we consider runway locations, please don't @ me...
Also, I do not know who they work with for interior design projects but he/she nails it! Every store and boutique whether they are pop-up or not are just aesthetically pleasing and appealing! One of the items in my bucket list is to visit a store of Jacquemus when I travel abroad because come on, they are like fashion museums, who wouldn't want to visit them?
5.The Color Palettes
I am aware that every designer creates a story, theme and a whole vision board when preparing a collection. And maybe I am a bit biased but I do not think most of those collections and especially, the color palettes they chose are as harmonized and coherent as the ones Jacquemus use. Every color is balanced within each collection he and his team makes, no look is alienated when compared the others. It is of course super okay and understandable to create two or three looks that are outstanding to create a shock effect but I think those different looks must still be matching with the overall color palette of the collection. So, whether he goes for vibrant colors or soft pastels, he always knows how to balance them!
That's all I can say about (Simon Porte) Jacquemus for now. If you already love him like me I hope you enjoyed reliving his iconic moments through this post. If you did not like him at all before this post, I hope I was able to change your idea through my point of view and make you wanna give him a second chance :) Hope to see you on the next one my fellow Fashion Wonderer(s)! Until then, take care xx
